Gold worth over Rs 1 cr seized at Dabolim airport

Gold was smuggled from Sharjah

VASCO: The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI), Goa region unit, on Saturday, seized 3.229 kg of gold worth Rs 1 crore from a passenger, who had arrived at the Dabolim international airport by Air Arabia flight from Sharjah. 
As per information, the DRI sleuths intercepted a Goan passenger upon his arrival at the airport from Sharjah during the wee hours on Saturday. 
On search of his baggage thoroughly, DRI officials could not find any smuggled material however when they carried out the personal search they seized 3.229 kg of gold, worth Rs 1 crore. 
“The seizure consists of four gold bars and gold chain which was tied around waist. After thorough investigation and interrogation, the passenger revealed that the gold consignment was handed over to him by another passenger from Kozhikode-Kerala, who had also travelled by the same flight. We also succeeded in nabbing the passenger who had handed over the gold consignment. He was traced in the baggage hall before he could exit the customs arrival hall,” an official said.
