CURCHOREM: Elderly couple from Kakoda-Curchorem had a miraculous escape when a huge mango tree got uprooted and fell on their house early in the morning, on Friday.
According to reports, Mahadev Dessai and his wife were sleeping in their bed room at the time of the incident. Suddenly, a huge tree came crashing down on their house due to strong wind and the roof tiles along with some wooden rafters broke and fell on them but luckily escaped with minor injuries.
According to Fire Fighter Deepak Naik, the preliminary estimate of damage caused to the house is around Rs 70,000.
Meanwhile, Curchorem Fire and Emergency Services station received 15 calls from various places reporting incidents of tree falling on roads and at many places fell on electric wires disrupting power supply.
“At Paroda a huge tree fell on the house of Peter Coutinho and his cow shed causing a loss of around Rs 40,000 and the main road remained blocked for almost half an hour due to fall of some logs from the truck which was proceeding towards Margao which was cleared later on by our team,” informed Naik
Also some part of a retaining wall at the Curchorem railway station collapsed due to heavy rain on Thursday night.
