Govt reconstitutespanel to studycauses of landslides

PANJIM: The State government on Tuesday reconstituted a committee under the chairmanship of Collectors of each district to study the causes of landslides and also to propose restoration measures for landslides.

As per the order issued by Sandeep S Gawade, Under Secretary (Revenue-II), Collectors of North and South Goa are chairmen of committees of the respective districts, while the Chief Conservator of Forest, Principal Chief Engineer (PWD), Chief Engineer (WRD) and Chief Town Planner (TCP) and Director of Agriculture are the committee members.“The commit tee shall submit the report within three months to the Secretary (Revenue)/Member Secretary (State Disaster Management Authority),” the order said.

Member secretary Bio Diversity Board is the committee’s member Secretary.

The expert members include Dr M K Janarthanam, Professor, Department of Botany, Goa University, Dr Suresh Kunkalikar, Principal, Don Bosco Agriculture College, Dr Manoj Borkar, Professor, Biodiversity Research Cell, Carmel College, Dr Rajiv Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS), Dr Pranab Mukhopadhyay, Professor, Goa University, and Dr Manoj Ibrampurkar, Associate Professor, Department of Geology, Dhempe College of Arts and Science,.
