MARGAO: Beware if you plan to visit the Margao Municipal Council for a birth certificate or payment of tax. You may be the next victim and even end up in a hospital with a broken leg or shoulder as the slippery flooring at the entrance to the civic body (the payment section) has caught many a visitor off guard.
A middle-aged man from Gogol slipped and fell down on the ramp at the entrance around noon while heading inside the building. He was rushed to Hospicio with a fractured leg, even as citizens demanded replacement of the floor tiles before more people fall victim.
The municipal staff also joined the citizens in demanding the replacement of the slippery tiles. “We have witnessed many a citizen falling down and sustaining injuries on the tiles. They should be immediately replaced”, remarked an official.
When contacted, municipal engineer Diniz D’Mello admitted that the floor tiles were giving nightmares to visitors and staff alike, saying that he would propose replacement of the tiles. “Even the floor tiles inside the payment section need replacement. We will soon take a decision”, he added. Meanwhile, a municipal employee was injured after the chair he was sitting broke down. The bleeding employee was immediately rushed for medical treatment.
