MARGAO: Dengue scare has returned back to haunt villagers of Velim. A suspected case of dengue was reported at Rangali area of the village after which people demanded immediate action by health officials and local panchayat body.
Officials of the Primary Health Centre, Balli, descended on Rangalli to take stock of the situation. Sanitary inspector Jay Kumar Naik told Herald that fogging operations will be taken up by the PHC immediately as a precautionary measure.
Naik pointed out that the health officials will survey the Rangalli area to find out fever cases, if any, in the locality.
“The PHC has sought details on the suspected case from health officials”, he said.
Stanley Borges said the health department and the Velim panchayat should act fast to stop spread of the disease.
“Dengue had hit the coastal Cutbona area of the village some time back. The village panchayat should act fast by initiating immediate action”, he demanded.
Sources informed that a boy with fiver was taken to a private hospital where the blood test revealed low amount of blood platelets. Cutbona locality of Velim had been in the news last year after dengue claimed the life of a young woman and also affected several residents residing near the Cutbona fishing jetty.
