BENAULIM: United Club of Nerul pipped Goan Warriors FC, Tivim by a solitary goal to emerge champs of the 43rd Cana Benaulim inter-village football tournament organised by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association, at St John de Baptista ground, Benaulim, on Sunday.
Both the teams had equal chances of scoring in both the session. Anson D’souza of UC Nerul was unlucky as his attempt was saved by Goan Warriors keeper Samit Bugde.
Keeper Siddhesh Morje of UC Nerul also saved an on target attempt of Goan Warriors’Chetan Shirodkar.
The all-important goal was scored at the fag end of the second session by Sanket Jotkar after dribbling past a couple of defenders and later the keeper Bugde.
The winners UC Nerul collected Rs 40,000 and a trophy while Goan Warriors FC had to be content with Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
Rahul Parab, Police Inspector of Colva police station was the chief guest and handed over the prizes in the presence of Camilson Fernandes and Diela Fernandes – Sarpanch of Cana Benaulim.
