PANJIM: The Goa Medical Council and not the Indian Medical association has taken suo moto cognizance and will ask for a report on the alleged molestation of a lady tourist by a doctor from the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim from the state government and not the Indian Medical Council.
Yesterday, speaking to Herald, GMC Goa chief Dr Shekhar Salkar had said that though the council had so far not received any complaint but based on media reports suo-moto cognizance had been taken. We had incorrectly referred to him as the chief of IMA.
Meanwhile, the IMA Goa state unit has clarified the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Goa Unit is currently headed by Dr Jagadish A Cacodcar, Dr. Vinayak G. Buvaji as State Secretary and Dr Atchut R Kakodkar as State Treasurer.
The IMA has also said that the alleged incident pertains to the doctor’s service matter and is covered by the relevant Conduct Rules at Goa Medical College. Reposing full faith in the state government and the inquiry instituted by it, it said that the facts of the matter would come out upon completion of due process of the Law through this inquiry instituted by the government and as such the IMA Goa has no locus standi in this matter.
It also said that there is no complaint has been received by the IMA Goa about this incident till date and neither has the IMA Goa State taken any suo-moto cognizance of the allegations against the doctor.
According to the IMA, it has its own legal advisor in all such matters and its own constitution and without receiving any complaint and without ascertaining veracity of any complaints, it does not go by any prima facie statements attributed or alleged and that it has not sought any report from the medical superintendent of the Goa Medical College nor has the state executive met or decided upon any action in this matter until now.
