PANJIM: In a subtle dig to his detractors, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasized upon how grassroots and genuine youth leaders are needed in politics and for the development of the nation, at the second day of the National Youth Parliament. On the same note he said nepotism is not required and gave the example of those who are committed to helping the public in the aim of the betterment of society.

Sawant spoke about the work the youth had done in the pandemic and in national activities like Clean India Mission as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also cited his own example as someone who had begun his career in the social sector and then left a steady government job to contest Assembly elections even though his father was not an MLA. He added that despite not having any family political background, he not only became an MLA, but with the backing of former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar, he was promoted to various posts like head of a corporation, Speaker and then CM.
Pointing out that the audience for the second day was different from the first day, Sawant repeated that his phrase ‘Bivpachi Garaz Na’ had been mocked by the opposition but was used to motivate the government to overcome challenges it faced due to the pandemic, floods and other issues.
