Whenever it comes to Narkasur, Siddesh Ladu Naik is in a great mood as he takes great pleasure and satisfaction in creating his famous and trademark idols and Narkasur face masks. The demand for his work has also uplifted him given that the pandemic and earlier lockdown had restricted his movements outdoors.
Now, he has been travelling to the Ponda bus stand where he sells his creations.
Speaking about the recent months and the ongoing festival period, Naik said just as people celebrated the Ganesh festival with social distancing, he is looking forward to the burning of the Narkasur effigy.
“COVID-19 didn’t dampen my spirits, “said Naik, while talking about his art and how he goes about making it.
He explained how he prepares masks of different sizes and that he gets a decent number of buyers for his work.
“A big mask costs around Rs 4,500 while a small mask costs Rs 100,” he added, while explaining that he earns his livelihood by selling these masks.
Meanwhile, youth from Ponda have started making Narkasur effigies, which will be burnt on November 13, the eve of Diwali, as a symbol of victory of good over evil.
