MARGAO: Protesting the “inhumane” treatment meted out to Goans at the Sub-Registrar’s office in Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday presented a memorandum to the Collector demanding that a token system be introduced immediately.
After the submitting a memorandum on May 28 earlier this year, AAP said instead of improving, the situation has worsened with people forced to stand in long queues for hours and with no separate facility being provided to senior citizens.
The party complained that there is no place to seat outside as people are forced to stand in queues and even senior citizens, pregnant women and nursing mothers have to stand for hours as there are only two computers to handle the workload.
“The constant excuse we hear is that there is lack of staff when we can see some staff sitting idle in the office either reading newspapers or playing on their mobiles. Why cannot they be asked to help clear the crowd here?” Adv Ohm Stanley of AAP questioned.
Gokulkas Chari, a Sancoale resident pointed out that he was called to collect the certificate 30 days after he had made the application for the same. Incidentally, the Goa Right to Time Bound Delivery of Public Services Act states that Birth Certificate should be issued within 2 days and at Margao, people are called after a month.
“This is like making a mockery of the Act and we fail to understand how this government can claim to be protecting “Goenkarponn” when they are harassing Goans and it has been reduced to “fottingponn”,” alleged Rodney Almeida, AAP member.
Nazareth Torcato from Cuncolim complained that he wasted four months last year after submitting his application in May 2017.
