Margao Lok Samiti formed to misguide people: Churchill
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, NOV 3

PWD Minister Churchill Alemao on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Margao Lok Samiti saying the Samiti was formed only to misguide the people of Margao during the recently held polls for the Margao Municipal elections.
The Navelim MLA also said that social activist Dr Oscar Rebello should not have dabbled in politics by addressing a meeting at Fatorda to drum up support for the candidature of Piedade Noronha in Ward No 3 of the Margao Civic body.
Alemao also did not spare Congress leaders, that certain congress leaders, including South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha had been attending football finals along with BJP MLA Damu Naik and Piedade Norohna in the recent past.
“I have no objections for the social activism of Dr Rebello for the cause of Goa. Politics and organizations are two different things”, Alemao told newsmen adding that he had thrown his weight behind GPCC general secretary Vijay Sardessai for supporting the cause of the poor and the downtrodden.
Asserting that the Margao Lok Samiti was formed to misguide the people of Margao, Alemao, however, said the people have realized the true colours of the Samiti and supported the candidates supported by him and Sardessai in Fatorfda.
He said though Congress leaders, including Sardinha were behind Norohna, he said that people have shown their trust and faith in him and Sardessai as evident by the poll results.
Incidentally, the PWD Minister said that Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat had told him not to interfere in the Civic polls in Margao area, but categorically stated that he had openly supported the candidature of youth Congress vice-president Pratima Coutinho.
“Pratima is a congress leader. She was harassed during the polls. Hence, I decided to support her candidature”, Alemao added.
Saying that the Congress is becoming strong in Goa as evident by the results of the recently held Municipal polls, Alemao gave credit to AICC general secretary in charge of Goa, B Hariprasad, GPCC general secretary Subhash Shirodkar, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and his team.
“I can say with confidence that the Congress would retain power in the state by winning more than 25 Assembly seats in the next Assembly polls”, he added.
