MARGAO: Following the South Goa Planning and Development Authority’s (SGPDA) decision to appoint a consultant for the renovation of the wholesale fish market, the South Goa collector directed the PDA to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the market.
The PDA officials and collector Sachin Shinde had conducted a site inspection last month, following which the directions were issued. While the PDA instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to clean the drains and look into wastewater management, Shinde followed up on the PDA’s instruction to ensure adequate water supply to the market. Shinde also asked the PDA to modify the drains to facilitate water drainage.
The district collector asked that a compliance report on the remedial measures before September 14 and directed the PDA to fill potholes on the road near the market to prevent water accumulation.
Shinde, who initiated the proceedings through the Salcete sub-divisional magistrate, also asked the PDA to create parking facilities, control garbage dumping and littering, and construct additional toilets at the market.
