VASCO: In a bid to create a massive awareness on cancer and in specific ‘Cervical Cancer’, Airport Authority of India Women’s Welfare Association [ Kalyanmayee] in association with Manipal Hospitals Goa and Goa Cancer Society conducted a “Free Women’s Wellness Camp” today at Goa International Airport, Dabolim.
The “Women’s Wellness Camp” was inaugurated by the traditional lighting of the lamp by Mrs. Anjali Mohapatra-President “Kalyanmayee” in the presence of Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, IAS, Chairman- AAI, Shri. Bhupesh C H Negi- Airport Director, Goa International Airport, Dr. Shubha Jyoti- Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Manipal Hospitals Goa and Shri. Jayarama Sales and Marketing Head at Manipal Hospitals Goa.
Speaking on the occasion Mrs. Anjali Mohapatra-President “Kalyanmayee said “Sadly, Cancer is one of the worst ailments across all age groups, and the incidence of
cancer has increased in India and is a matter of great concern for millions who are gripped by this fatal disease. Breast cancer accounts for 27 per cent of all cancers in women in India, with the incidence rising in the early thirties and peaking at ages 50-64 years. Cervical cancer accounts for 22.9 per cent of all cancer cases in women. According to the statistics provided by National Cancer Registry Program (NCRP), that there are about 14 lakh Cancer incident cases, 38 lakh prevalent cases and 7 lakh cancer related deaths per year.
Mrs. Anjali Mohapatra congratulated “Goa International Airport Kalyanmayee Team led by Mrs Ranjanan Negi, President of Kalyanmayee Goa Airport Branch”, “Manipal Hospitals Goa” and “Goa Cancer Society”, for this “Women’s Wellness Camp” that will screen women for cancer, and educate people on Cancer and how they can be more informed. This will also help in removing taboo associated with cancer. I urge people to be more determined to beat Cancer.
Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, IAS, Chairman-AAI, said “I am very happy that “Goa International Airport”, “Manipal Hospitals Goa” and “Goa Cancer Society” have come together to “Create Awareness among the public on Cancer and educate them on timely medical intervention to detect and defeat cancer. He also encouraged the patients to take the specially designed low cost Cancer detection package for men and women, developed by Manipal Hospitals Goa in association with Goa Cancer Society, for early detection which is extremely crucial for treatment.
Women package exclusively for the age group of 40 to 60 priced at Rs.1449/-, the package for women would include CEA, CA 15, CA 19.9, PAP SMEAR, Mammography, Ultrasound of Pelvic and Abdomen, CXR, CBC, Stool for Occult blood, Oncology consultation and Gynaecology consultation. For men, package will be available for the age group of 50 plus and includes CEA, CA 19.9, PSA, Ultrasound of Pelvis and Abdomen, CXR, CBC, Stool for occult blood and oncology consultation, and it is priced at Rs.999/- onlyThe Manipal Hospitals Goa medical team concentrated on educating people on timely medical intervention to detect and defeat Cancer. All the patients underwent a Free Random Blood Sugar Test, Blood Pressure Check, screening by the Resident Medical Officers after which the women in their thirties and 50 onwards and symptomatic positive cases of cervical Cancer were referred by the Radiation Oncologist to Manipal Hospitals Goa for a Free Pap Smear Test.
Further positive cases of Breast Cancer underwent a breast Examination by an “I BREAST Device”, which is a wireless infrared scanner to detect breast cancer. During the camp, the patients were also educated about the ill effects of smoking, chewing tobacco, drinking alcohol in excess, and advocate leading a healthy life style by eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, eating less of processed foods and being physically active.
