PANJIM: The evidence collected from the crime scene at Quitla has been sent for forensic examination as the accused Mukesh Devekar has confessed that the fatal attack on Avinash Sakhalkar late Friday night was in a fit of rage.

Mapusa Police cracked the “blind murder” mystery on Saturday, less than 24 hours after the victim was found dead in a drain.
The accused 46-year-old Mukesh has been remanded to five-day custodial interrogation. His car, blood stained clothes and the stone that was used to commit the crime have been sent for forensic examination.
“The evidence collected from the crime scene as well as from the home of the accused will be examined by forensic doctors. The accused has confessed to the crime but further interrogation will be held during the five days of his custody,” a police official informed Herald.
On Friday night, the local police were informed about the murder of a youth whose body was found in a drain. The youth was later identified as Avinash Sakhalkar.
Five police teams of Deputy Superintendent of Police Gajanan Prabhudesai, Police Inspectors Tushar Lotlikar and Sandesh Chodankar among other personnel, dispatched to different locations for tracking leads to solve the murder mystery, zeroed-in on the accused. Devekar told the police that Sakhalkar allegedly provoked him by hurling abuses while the former was returning from fishing. This led to a scuffle between the two wherein the accused hit the 28-year-old with a stone.
