CALANGUTE: Tourism stakeholders have appealed to the Tourism Minister to clean up the Calangute Beach pay-parking and surrounding areas.

The appeal comes after a video highlighting the mess at the Calangute beach promenade went viral.
“Sewage is spilling out of these make-shift toilets and flowing all over the area, while the Sulabh toilets have been converted into shops by the Tourism Department-appointed contractor. Garbage bags are also strewn all over with faeces, probably of the tourists defecating behind parked cars,” claimed Walter Lobo, Calangute resident and activist.
Beach shack owners in the Calangute-Candolim beach-belt have also complained that the Tourism Department contractor responsible for collecting garbage from the beach, does not collect for 3-4 days at a stretch.
“Tourism businesses in Calangute pay so much in taxes, they should at least keep a few sweepers to clean up the garbage in the Tourism Department pay-parking areas,” Lobo said.
