MARGAO: In a positive development for the employees of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), the civic body has decided to implement a long-awaited hike in pay scale for its workforce. This decision will extend benefits under the Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) scheme to around 270 employees.

Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson of the MMC, highlighted that this marks the first time in nearly three decades that such benefits are being granted to the council’s employees. He estimated that the financial impact of the new pay scale will amount to around Rs 1.70 crore.

“This is the first time in the history of the Margao Municipality that several employees are receiving promotions and MACP benefits after such a long delay. I consider this justice for the employees,” Shirodkar said. In addition to the MACP benefits, promotions were granted to nine employees, including a market inspector, head clerk, and UDCs.

Shirodkar noted that the process to implement these changes began about seven months ago. Many employees, who had served over 10 years without receiving promotions, will now benefit from the long-overdue adjustments.
