CUNCOLIM: Sociadade Agricola dos Gaunkaris de Cuncolim e Veroda, in its recent general body meeting, deliberated on how to move Cuncolim out of the preview of Goa Abolition Of Proprietorships, Titles and Grants of Lands Act, 2014.
It was decided that before approaching the courts to seek relief, they would prepare and submit a Bill to amend the Act, to the local MLA and request him to table the Bill in the upcoming Assembly session.
On Tuesday, the MLA was given the bill and he assured that he would discuss the issue with his party and take the matter to its logical conclusion as per the wishes of the people.
The Bill proposes a single amendment to the Act whereby the word “Cuncolim” is omitted from Clause 1(iii) of Section 3 of the Act.
The Act was meant to grant ownership title to the people of Mayem who are residing on the land which was held by an individual who was given Title by the Portuguese government, the Conde, and later passed on to his heirs. However, without the knowledge of the Sociadade of Cuncolim, the village of Cuncolim was added to the 2014 Bill and passed in the Goa Assembly.
