BENAULIM: CAC Cansaulim defeated Maina SC, Curtorim 5-4 via tie-breaker to storm into the semi-finals of 27th Super Soccer inter-village football tournament at the St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Saturday.
Maina SC goalkeeper Johnson Bhagat and CAC Cansaulim goalkeeper Prabhakar Kattimani did a commendable job under the cross bar.
In the third minute, Domnic Soares of CAC Cansaulim took control of the ball and released venomous strike which Nelson Fernandes of Maina SC blocked this move. Maina SC through Agnelo Martins should have found the ball at the back of the net in the 4th minute but the shot went wide.
Dominic Soares of CAC Cansaulim squandered an opportunity to score in the 6th minute. Maina SC had a chance through Angelo but the shot went wide in the eight minute.
Goalkeeper of CAC Cansaulim Prabhakar saved a brilliant right footed shot from Melvin Fernandes of Maina SC in the 9th minute. Later, Agnelo crossed a ball to unmarked Placidinho Fernandes, who rose high to head in to score 1-0 for Maina SC Curtorim in the 10th minute.
Maina SC dominated first 15 minutes of first half. In the 18th minute, Chadwick Furtado of CAC Cansaulim took a free kick inside the Maina SC box, but was foiled by Melvin Fernandes, defender of Maina SC.
After the lemon break, Dominic Soares with an arrow bond shot equalized 1-1 for CAC Cansaulim from a shot from Francisco Monteiro in the 37th minute.
Later, the 40th minute saw Placidinho’s shot bounced near the CAC Cansaulim box and was about to enter into the net but CAC Cansaulim goalkeeper punched the ball for a corner kick.
A goalline save by Anthony Cardoza of Maina SC in the 46th minute was the main move of today’s match otherwise CAC Cansaulim through Brian Diniz’s header would have been at the back of Maina SC net.
In the resultant tie-breaker, CAC Cansaulim scored through Chadwick Furtado, Domnic Soares, Richard Rodrigues and Jowet Baretto while Maina SC netted through Melvin Fernandes, Savio Fernandes and Welson Fernandes.
On Friday, Varca SC scored a solitary goal win over United Boys of Dando, Colva to surge ahead into the quarter-finals.
Joylin Cardoza scored the winning goal in the 43rd minute.
