PANJIM: The Congress on Monday assured to appoint only sportspersons on all sports bodies if the people of Goa elect the party back to power in the upcoming 2022 State Assembly elections.
The party has also assured to clear all the pending dues of the sportspersons and association within a fortnight. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar made the above statements during the induction of international football player Alvito D’Cunha at party head office.

“It is the duty of every elected government to give respect to sportspersons and association for their contribution to the sporting field. The Congress government after coming to power in 2022 will ensure that only sportspersons are appointed on all sporting bodies,” Girish said in a press release. The ace footballer was welcomed in the party by presenting him a Congress Jersey with his favourite number ‘9’ by Chodankar, CLP Leader Digambar Kamat, Working President Aleixo Sequeira and others.
Chodankar alleged that Sports Minister Manohar alias Babu Ajgaonkar has transformed the Sports Department into a corruption hub.
“He has kept on hold financial aid to the tune of more than Rs1.5 crore of various sports associations, sportspersons living in indigent conditions as well as the medal winners for his greed of commission. The financial aids in some cases are pending since 2018,” Chodankar claimed terming the sports minister as ‘corrupt’.
