PERNEM: The impact of cyclone Ockhi was felt along the Pernem coast on Monday as all the shacks along the Querim beach were left damaged.
All the six shacks installed along the Querim beach were damaged but the toilets, which were built at a height and the kitchens of two shacks however remained untouched.
However, three shacks were washed out completely. Shack owners claimed to have suffered a loss of over Rs 2 lakh each. A depression has been formed along the beach with almost a-metre-and-half sand has been washed away into the sea.
Shack owners said they will require many sand-laden trucks to level the area to re-install the shacks. The shack owners failed to save some of the items since the incident occurred late Monday night.
Due to the high tide, water entered the shacks along the beaches in the Bardez belt too, but no major damage was reported.
At Arambol beach, two shacks were damaged and while others were too were hit at Morjim beach.
Local MLA Dayanand Sopte and former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar visited the beaches in Pernem on Monday.
