PANJIM: The State Level Monitoring Committee on Forest Rights Act, headed by Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma has decided to send letters to the applicants to produce documentary evidence to support their claims under the Schedule Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights), Act 2006.
The review meeting of the State Level Monitoring Committee was held on Thursday. The meeting deliberated on ways to gain momentum towards speedy disposal of forest rights claims.
Tribal Welfare Director Venancio Furtado presented the status report of the disposal of the individual as well as community forest rights claims.
As per the report, out of 9,761 individual claims the government has distributed only 35 titles to beneficiaries and the district level committee headed by the district collectors has approved 67 claims for titles. So far, spot verification of 3,193 claims has been completed.
Under community rights, of the 376 claims mutation of four claims has been completed and eight titles distributed.
After reviewing the progress of implementation of FRA, the Chief Secretary directed the officials concerned to dispose 215 individual claims in all aspects by adopting standard procedure by March 31, 2019 and remove bottlenecks for streamlining the process.
