MARGAO: Margao Municipal Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello found himself in trouble on Friday over the illegal construction at Mungul.
The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) has directed Gonzaco to show cause within 15 days why action to demolish the two structures in front and behind the building in question should not be initiated by the Authority under section 52 of the Town and Country Planning Act. The MMC Chairperson has been given 15 days to file his reply or face action from the Authority.
SGPDA Member Secretary Vinod Kumar said the site inspection on November 24, 2014, by PDA officials revealed that Gonzaco has carried out illegal development in the area zoned as Commercial C-2 in the Outline Development Plan without prior permission from the Authority.
The SGPDA site inspection report revealed that a shade in front of the building and another shade behind the builder was part of the illegal development carried out by Gonzaco.
The two illegal structures came to the fore earlier this week when complainant Savio Dias lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the file pertaining to the hearing of the case before the Margao Municipal Chief Officer had gone missing. MMC Chief Officer Naveen S L later clarified that the file is very much in the civic body and that he would initiate hearing in the case.
