PONDA: PWD has resumed water supply to about 70 houses in Kavangal and Savoi in Verem-Vaghurme Panchayat in Ponda taluka, one week after water supply to these houses was affected when a well at Kavangal got filled by a landslide.
“Following the incident, PWD begun supplying water through tankers. Kavangal Panch Gurudas Naik gave permission to utilise well water from his property at Kavangal, following which PWD installed a motor and connection was made to the main pipeline to supply water,” informed Deputy Sarpanch Vinay Naik.
“The arrangement is temporary, as PWD will undertake work to clear mud from the well. Local MLA and Cooperation Minister Deepak Dhavlikar also helped to expedite the work to set up this temporary facility,” added Naik.
“The residents faced problem for over a week, as water was supplied through tankers. However, we are thankful to the panchayat for taking up the matter with officials concerned,” said Piyanka Naik from Kavangal.
According to information, presently there are over 900 houses in Verem-Vaghurme Panchayat and since the last several years PWD supplies well water to these houses.
“There are about 10 wells in the village from which water is pumped and supplied through the pipelines. For the last several years, PWD has been supplying well water to the village,” informed Deputy Sarpanch Naik.
According to PWD officials, water from Opa-Khandepar cannot be supplied due to low water pressure and as such the facility is being built at Ganje-Usgao from where water will be supplied to the region.
“We have been told by the authorities that once PWD’s water facility at Ganje-Usgao is ready, the water problem will be solved,” informed Naik.
