PANJIM: Panjim Footballers and Holy Cross Arambol played out a 1-1 draw in the GFA 2nd Division League match at Don Bosco ground, Panjim, on Monday.
Beneson Barreto gave Panjim Footballers the lead just at the stroke of half time. Amit Fernandes levelled things in the 54th minute through a penalty. With this match, Panjim Footballers have accumulated seven points from their three matches.
The game was equally poised as both the sides created a lot of chances. The Panjim Footballers trio Beneson, Gautam Dais and Moses D’Sa combined well finding themselves in a dangerous position on numerous occasions.
Panjim Footballers broke the deadlock through Beneson in the 44th minute when he latched on to a well directed cross by Gautam to keep his composure and finish with a low right footed shot.
In the second half, once again Panjim Footballers threatened the Holy Cross Arambol nets through Moses D’Sa but couldn’t make the opportunity count.
However, Holy Cross Arambol came back strongly in the 54th minute as they stepped up pressure in the Panjim Footballers box causing Lalbabu to commit a silly error by handling an aerial cross.
The referee Elvis had no difficulty in pointing towards the spot. Amit Fernandes stepped up to the occasion as he took a calm penalty sending the goalkeeper Sherwin D’Cunha wrong side.
