PANJIM; The Department of Tourism (DoT) has sent a reminder letter to the North Goa Collector over the running of Saturday Night Market at Arpora without valid permissions and has asked the Collector to submit Action Taken Report (ATR) by January 2.
The DoT had earlier asked the District Magistrate to stop the Saturday Night Market at Arpora since the department had not issued any permission or the proponents had not obtained the required permissions. The Department has now asked the District Magistrate to submit the ATR and to initiate action against the officer who failed to stop the ongoing market.
During the tourist season, a large number of people visit the Market which starts in the evening and continue till wee hours with many stalls put up by locals and tourists besides music and live shows.
The DoT is trying to make it mandatory for hoteliers and other involved in tourism related activities to register under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, for the convenience of tourists.
