Chemists and druggists meet
PANJIM: The 5th Executive Committee meeting of All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) along with a special general body meeting will be held on July 27 and 28 at the Lalit Golf and Spa Resort, Canacona. Around 350 delegates from all over India will attend the meeting and deliberate on the issues of Government New Pricing Policy ~ DPCO-2013, shortage of pharmacists and FDI in drug store retail trade.
The meeting is hosted by CDAG Chemist and Druggist Association Goa, affiliated to AIOCD. The meet will be inaugurated by Director FDA Salim Velgee, at 10 am on July 28.
Vanamohotsav held at Margao
PANJIM: Playgroup Margao, organised Vanamohotsav at Housing Board Ground, Gogol, Margao. Sadanand Naik and Babita Naik, Councillors of Margao Municipal Council were the guests. Naik stated that this important step taken by Playgroup Margao will help make Margao green. Babita Naik also assured all possible help from MMC in this endeavor. Sandeep Azrenker, President of Nisarga Association said every individual should take responsibility of planting at least 5 trees in one year. Trees were planted at various open spaces in housing board area near Chinmaya Mission. Earlier President of Playgroup Vishwanath Swar welcomed the guests. Amey Prabhudesai compered while Paresh Nateker, Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.
Ravindra Bhavan at Canacona
PANJIM: The Bhumipujan of the proposed site of Ravindra Bhavan at Canacona will be held on July 27 at 5 pm near Canacona bus stand at the hands of Chief Minister, Minister for Art & Culture, and Minister for Sports, Secretary Art & Culture, Vice Chairman (GSIDC) along with other dignitaries.
The cultural complex will house AC auditorium with seating capacity of 800 pax, administrative block, rehearsal room, mini conference room, green rooms, teaching rooms, rest room, lounge, parking area, security hut etc.
Health Day and Environment Day held
PANJIM: Health Day was celebrated at Montessori Primary School and Kinder Garten, Goa Velha recently. Dr Arnald Fernandes was the chief guest. The school displayed various health related issues such as personal cleanliness, cleanliness at home, neighbourhood and public places, yoga, sources and deficiency of vitamins, causes of malaria, Chikungunya, Dengue, etc. A CD was shown on vector borne disease. Parents and children checked their weight. Earlier the headmistress Marianinha D’Souza welcomed.
Environment Day was also celebrated at the school where the Sarpanch of Goa Velha Jagdish Bhobe was the chief guest. The school displayed various modules showing how the environment is effected and also suggested ways to protect and save it. There were also displays of various medicinal plants and herbs. Parents, students and villagers attended.
Prog on family planning held
PANJIM: Natural Family Planning Propagation Day was organizedby the Diocesan Family Service Centre (DFSC) through its Responsible Parenthood Department at St Francis Xavier chapel Duler, Mapusa on July 21. Around 350 parishioners and twenty-five spousal couples of the deanery participated.
The liturgical celebration was presided over by Fr Kennet Teles, Director of DFSC. He said if contraceptives mentality prevails then there will be loss of marital fidelity, failed marriages, live-in-relationship, pre-marital or extra-marital affairs and changing partners. A session for the spousal couples on natural family planning was held by Vally and Anna Coelho. Refreshments were sponsored by the chaplain of Duler Fr Caetano Fernandes.
Pernem local cheated of Rs 14,000
PERNEM: A man from Mauswada-Pernem was cheated to the tune of about Rs 14,000. According to Pernem Police, Nandkishor G Pilankar of Mauswada complained that an unidentified staffer at a company in Porvorim fraudulently forged his signature on the delivery challan of Rs 14,428 towards supply of beer boxes. PSI Sushant Gawas is investigating the case.
Merces murder: SPCA adjourns hearing
PANJIM: The State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA) has adjourned the hearing in the Merces double murder case to August 21 as the five police officials accused of lapses sought time to file their responses. When the matter came up for hearing Thursday, DySP Umesh Gaonkar, PI Devendra Gad and three others who are facing inquiry for lapses sought time to reply to the notices. Accordingly, Chairman R M S Khandeparkar granted them time till August 14 and adjourned the matter for next hearing on August 21. The police officials are facing inquiry for not taking immediate and proper action on the first murder, which if they had acted on a tip-off by a journalist, it is claimed that the second murder and the attempted murder on the minor children could have been avoided.
Rs 12,000 stolen at Sernabatim
MARGAO: The Colva police on a complaint filed by Manuel D’Silva, a seaman from Sernabatim, Colva have registered an offence of theft under section 457 and 380 IPC against unknown accused. D’Silva in complaint has stated that between midnight of to 6.30 am of July 22, the unknown accused entered the flat from the bathroom ventilator and committed theft of Rs 12,000, besides 3,000 US dollars from his wallet. PSI Tulsidas Naik is conducting further investigation in the case.
Mother Mary statue stolen at Davorlim
MARGAO: Unknown miscreants effected entry into the Our Lady Chapel, Davorlim and committed theft of a statue of Our Lady worth Rs 1000. According to Maina Curtorim police, one Peter D’Costa from Zoriwaddo, Davorlim filed complaint that prior to July 20 unknown accused effected entry into the Chapel and lifted the statue. Further investigation in the case is being conducted by PSI Pradeep Velip.
Maruti van stolen at Benaulim
MARGAO: A Maruti Omni van, worth Rs 95,000 is reported to have gone missing which was parked in an open place at Per Seraulim. Asif Khan of Peda Grande, Benaulim has filed complaint with Colva police that between 6 pm of July 17 and 10 am of July 18 unknown accused committed theft of the Maruti Omni van belonging to Paul Baretto, Carmona which after repairs was kept in open place at Per Seraulim. Colva police are investigating.
Criminal case sent to special unit
MARGAO: The case of breach of trust registered by the Maina Curtorim police against an unidentified official of the Central Warehousing Corporation, situated at Verna IDC on a complaint by assistant custom commissioner Ashish Kumar, has been transferred to recently formed District Investigating Unit, South Goa. In his complaint, Kumar had alleged that in order to comply with formalities, the customs authorities who had taken in custody a consignment of toiletries in January last, kept the same in the safe custody of the Central Warehouse of Corporation, Container Depot situated in phase III B at the Verna IDC. He had further stated that the goods were checked in February and later when the same were checked in May it was found that goods worth over Rs 34 lakh were pilfered by unidentified officials.
