MARGAO: Blaming Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for throwing six lakh mining affected people on the streets by shutting down the mining activity, Trinamool Congress South Goa Candidate, Churchill Alemao has promised to get Rs 2000 crore financial package from the Centre to bail out the affected people from deep financial crisis.
He also promised to scrap the Mopa international airport, saying he has briefed TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee to get the proposed airport scrapped.
Addressing the media, the TMC candidate said the BJP and the Congress only made empty promises to the mining affected people, but did nothing to bail them out of the financial situation. “A Congress delegation led by the two MPs and the GPCC president has asked for Rs 1000 crore financial package for the mining affected people, but in vain. You cannot trust the BJP and Congress on this count,” he said, while saying that only he would be in a position to get a financial package with the third front led by Mamata Banerjee expected to form the next government at the Centre.
He said people in the mining belt are ready to support his candidature because they know that neither the Congress nor the BJP would come to power at the Centre.
When the media asked him to react to Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai’s stand that a vote for Churchill would be a vote for Narendra Modi, the TMC candidate accused Vijai for fixing the South Goa Congress ticket to ensure BJP’s victory in the poll. ‘The Congress is turning jittery as my candidature is receiving tremendous support from the people. People have now realised that a vote for the Congress is a vote for Modi,” he added.
