To conserve marine life, Govt forms Marine Ranges

PANJIM: In a bid to have a dedicated cell focused on marine life conservation, the State government has formed two Marine Ranges in the Forest Department.

The North Goa Marine Range will have headquarters in Morjim and in South at Galgibaga. Both Morjim and Galgibaga are notified turtle nesting sites. 

The ranges will be under control of Wildlife and Eco-Tourism Division in North and South Goa.

The jurisdiction of North Goa Range will include the coastal belt of Pernem, Bardez and Tiswadi talukas while the South will cover Salcete, Quepem and Canacona. 

The notification in this regard was issued by Under Secretary (Forest) Sapna S N Bandodkar.

The High Tide Line (HTL) and the Coastal Regulation Zones (CRZ) areas of the coastline from beaches of North Goa and South Goa will be the jurisdiction of these ranges along with HTL of Tiracol, Chapora, Mandovi, Zuari Rivers and their tributaries.
