Former chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), Savio Coutinho has called on the attention of the authorities concerned about an illegal structure that is being used by a homeless man as shelter right near the police station premises.
“You can call it callous attitude of the authorities or Goan hospitality and tolerance. Many have passed by and noticed a small structure bang opposite the police station, in front of Gomant Vidhya Niketan Hall at Margao, progressing into a house. It started as a plastic tarpaulin cover which gradually got stronger with cement as well, and is now taking the shape of a house,” said Coutinho.
Providing photographs, he pointed out that there is even a mirror very neatly fixed in cement. “In this case, a cable junction box is on the verge of being encircled. It may also not be surprising if someone is promoting this structure to eventually convert it into a Gadda,” added Coutinho.
“I can understand that the person may be homeless, but how can the authorities tolerate this right on the road? Secondly, the fact that the person is living amidst live cables is also dangerous enough to his life,” he asserted.
