MAPUSA: Goa Velha scored a convincing 2-0 win over Sangolda Lightning to move into the next round of the Lakhanpal Soccer Cup, organised by Candolim Sports Club, played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim here on Thursday.
In the 11th minute, Sairaj Chopdankar put Goa Velha ahead when on getting hold of the ball from Ashok Meghavi he fired the ball home, 1-0.
Five minutes later Goa Velha made it 2-0 when Ashok this time set up Newton Pereira who made no mistake to score, 2-0.
Sangolda should have turned the match in their favour, however Goa Velha keeper Geraldo Peres put up a splendid display under the horizontal bar to deny Thome Alvares an Yogesh Mayekar from scoring.
