VASCO: The Department of Legal Metrology conducted raids on Patanjali outlets across the State and seized several packaged goods.

Nitin P Purushan, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology, South Zone-I, Margao, stated that the department carried out raids on all Patanjali outlets across the State and seized 59 packages worth Rs 50,000 for not having month and year of manufacturing/packing date on them and for failing to meet mandatory labelling requirements.
Among the seized items were nine packages of Patanjali Amrit Srot copper pot-style jugs,33 packages of Patanjali Amrit Srot copper bottles, 16 packages of Patanjali Amrit Srot copper glasses and one package of Patanjali Amrit Srotmutka. These items, worth approximately Rs 50,000, were confiscated due to missing manufacturing and packaging dates, informed Purushan.
Besides this, following a consumer complaint regarding overcharging, 248 packages of electrical goods were seized from a Panjim outlet for not bearing mandatory declaration as required under the Legal Metrology Act 2009 and Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
The Legal Metrology Department has urged consumers to verify essential details on all packaged commodities before purchase, including name and complete address of the manufacturer/packet/importer, common generic name, country of origin in case of imported packages, month and year of manufacture/pre-packing date, import date, net quantity, MRP inclusive of all taxes, name and complete address of the person and office, email address and contact details in case of consumer complaint and unit sale price, d Purushan said.
Consumers who find non-compliant packaging are requested to report it by calling the department’s Quick Response Number at 9403301977. The drive will continue until violations under the provisions of Legal Metrology Act 2009 read with Legal Metrology (packaged commodities) rules 2011 is eradicated, Purushan said.
