PANJIM: IM Sameer Katmale of Maharashtra clinched the Fomento All-India Fide Rating Chess Tournament, organised by Rudreshwar, Panjim, at Institute Menenzes Braganza hall, here, recently.
He drew his last round to take his point tally to eight points out of nine rounds. He remained undefeated in this tournament.
FM Sauravh Khardekar finished second with a score of 7.5 points with a draw in the last round. Raghav Srivatsav of Telangana stood third with the score of 7.5 points.
The highlight of the tournament was Barath M of Goa as he defeated top seed IM Himanshu Sharma of Railways in the final round to finish fourth with a score of 7.5 points.
Sahil Tickoo (7.5 points) of Haryana finished fifth. The prize winners from the sixth to the ninth spot are Joydeep Dutta, Saranya Y, Falgun Purohi and Akshy Halagannavar respectively. All scored seven points each.
The prize winners from 10th to 18th with a score of 6.5 points are IM Himanshu Sharma, Chandar Raju, Ameya Audi, Stanley Samson, Sneh Dave, Vishwanath Sandilya, Omkar Kudav, Wison Cruz and Aditee Prabhugaonkar respectively.
The prize winners from 19th to 25th with the score of six points each are Vishwesh Kochrekar, Rajababu Gajengi, Jeel Shah, Aston Dias, Vijay Anand, Tatvesh Sawant and Gaurav Madkaikar.
Tanay Kaisary was felicitated by chief guest, Vinay Tendulkar for his contribution towards chess.
Vinay Tendulkar gave away the prizes in the presence of Akash Timblo, Sanjay Harmalkar, Dr Ashwini Kumar, Dipak Amonkar, Arvind Mhamal, Tanay Kaisary, Dnyaneshwar Naik, Satish Narvekar, Dattaram Pinge, Balakrishnan and other office bearers of Rudreshwar.
The category prize winners are as follows. U-7: Arush Pandey, Joy Kakodkar, Love Kakodkar and Mayuri Singikar. U-9: CM Leon Mendonca, Aditya Samant, Vernon Colaco, Adya Gaitoinde. U-11: Om Barde and WCM Gunjal Chopdekar, Annaya Gupta, Akhilesh Nigaley. U-13: Rishab Shah, Aryan Raikar, Advait Dhavlikar and WCM Swera Braganca. U-15: Shah Bhaven, Dutta Debarghya, Eashan Gad and Aishwarya Thorat.
Best Veteran: Kulkarni Anandrao. Best Women: Patil Samikasha and Naik Snehal. Best unrated: Aayush Prabhu and Pednekar Sagar.
