An electric bike caught fire early this morning around 7 a.m. on the Assolda–Curchorem main road. The rider, reportedly heading towards Curchorem, noticed smoke coming from the vehicle before it suddenly burst into flames.
Eyewitnesses said the fire appeared to have originated from the bike’s dikky (storage compartment). The rider managed to escape without any injuries.

Quepem Police arrived at the scene and conducted a panchanama to document the incident. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and are examining whether a technical malfunction or battery issue triggered the blaze.
Residents and commuters are being urged to exercise caution while riding electric vehicles and report any unusual smoke or sparks immediately to prevent similar incidents.
