Goa is a world famous tourist destination and we Goans are proud of Goa. Apart from other unwanted things happening in our beloved Goa, we are shocked and dismayed to say the least that this international tourist destination has roads with stray cattle menace.
Every highway, main roads and internal roads are infested by cattle squatting, roaming freely day and night with no authority to check them or take them off the roads. This stray cattle block all roads making walking and driving a nightmare just anywhere and everywhere. To begin with whose cattle is it anyway.

Don’t they have owners? Why are these cattle owners leaving them unescorted to roam, creating havoc everywhere holding the entire State to ransom. So disgusting to see hungry cattle scavenging on rotten things especially woodworks, plastic, medical waste and whatever comes in their way. Cows are supposed to be holy then why are the owners behaving unholy, without a care for their cattle well-being.
There is neither water/fodder nor shelter for the cattle as they are just left to fend for themselves sometimes beaten mercilessly by shop owners when such cattle block their shop or snatch eatables from their premises and counters.
These stray cattle cause constant serious accidents for pedestrians and road users, especially in the monsoon and even now with foggy hazy evenings/nights, making visibility very poor. So many persons get injured even losing their life for no fault of their own. Whereas, the cattle owners are relaxing while this menace troubling the public at large.
Requesting the government to initiate action and request the owners to take care of their cattle by not allowing them to roam freely. But if the cattle keepers do not oblige then they should be booked and fined for their carelessness.
Also bring urgent legislation/frame rules immediately authorising panchayats/ municipalities, NGOs etc to identify/locate the cattle owners in their jurisdiction.
Organise to set up cattle pounds and arrange to carefully catch stray cattle all over the State and transport them safely to hygienic pounds and shelter them. This way, the stray cattle will be safe and in turn the pedestrians and road users and others saved from a lot of unwanted hardships and inconvenience.
