National Award winning actor and filmmaker
Ajay Devgn will be the Chief Guest for the opening ceremony, while National
Award winning director, S S Rajamouli, will be the Chief Guest at the closing
ceremony of the 47th edition of the
International Film Festival of India to be held in Goa. The festival that will
be held from November 20-28, 2016 will feature Polish film, ‘Afterimage’ and
South Korean film ‘The Age of Shadows’ as the opening and closing films of the
festival, respectively. ‘Age of Shadows’ also happens to be South Korea’s official
entry for the Academy Awards. It may be interesting to note that the ‘country
focus’ will be on South Korea this year at IFFI.
The festival this year will recognise the
contribution of a host of artistes with prestigious awards. Renowned Korean filmmaker
Kwon Taek Im, best known for his films such as ‘Wife’ (1976), ‘The Evergreen
Tree’ (1978), ‘The Family Pedigree’ (1979), ‘Chunhyang’ (2000), ‘Chihwaseon’
(2001) and ‘Low Life’ (2004), will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement
Award at the festival. Award winning and acclaimed singer S P Balasubramaniam
will be awarded the Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year
2016 for his contribution to Indian Cinema. Furthermore, a special homage will
be paid at IFFI 2016 to actor-singer Kalabhan Mani, actresses Kalpana and
Sadhana Shivdasani, and film archivist Paramesh Krishnan Nair. In addition to
that, Padma awardees and Sahitya Akademi awardees from Goa and National and
State film awardees from Goa will be invited for the opening and closing
ceremonies of the festival.

The jury of the Indian Panorama section at
IFFI 2016 has announced its final selection of feature and non-feature films to
be screened at the 47th edition of the festival. In the list of 22 feature
films that have been shortlisted, out of 230 eligible entries, Goan director
Rajeev Shinde’s ‘K Sera Sera’ will be the only Konkani feature film in the
list. The opening feature film, for the Indian Panorama, under recommendation
from the jury, is Sanskrit film ‘Ishti’ directed by G Prabha. Highly acclaimed
and multi-crore grosser film ‘Baahubali’, directed by SS Rajamouli, also finds
a place in the Indian Panorama 2016. However, the audience will get to enjoy
the Telugu version of the film, which won the Best Feature Film at the 63rd
National Film Awards 2015. Other popular mainstream films like ‘Sultan’, ‘Sairat’,
‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Airlift’ have also been selected under the Indian
Panorama.
The non-feature films section of the Indian
Panorama jury chaired by well-known documentary filmmaker Arvind Sinha has
picked 21 films out of 198 eligible entries. The 7-member jury took fifteen
days to finalise the selections. The opening non-feature film for the Indian
Panorama, under recommendation from the jury, is ‘Ima Sabitri’ directed by Bobo
KH. Also, ‘Amdavad Ma Famous’ directed by Hardik Mehta, the Best Non-Feature
Film at the 63rd National Film Awards 2015, will also be featured in the Indian
Panorama 2016.
