PANJIM: Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid, on Monday, said that the dual citizenship and OCI card issues need to be settled as quickly as possible not to gain any political advantage, but as service to G’wwoans. Khurshid took pot shots at the BJP leadership and stated that they didn’t have the political will to resolve the dual citizenship issue.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress House, here on Monday, Khurshid said Congress Party has always remained committed to welfare of OBC, SC and ST community while the BJP is not willing to give them power and their rights.
“BJP is ruling at the Centre as well as in Goa. Despite this, Prime Minister Modi-led government has failed to resolve the issue of Mhadei river, unemployment and political reservations for Scheduled Tribes,” he alleged.
“Why didn’t the Union Home Minister Amit Shah give time to the ST delegation and only met the Chief Minister of Goa?” Khurshid questioned.
“The unemployment rate is highest in the country in the last 45 years. The number of people without jobs has gone up from one crore in 2014 to four crores in 2024. As many as 42 per cent young graduates are left jobless and hopeless. Goa is having the highest unemployment rate in the country as per NITI Aayog. PM Modi had pledged to double the farmers’ income, but instead tried to bring in oppressive farm laws,” the Congress leader said.
To a question, Khurshid, a member of INDIA Coordination Committee, said the talks with various political parties, including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are going on very smoothly. Any announcement pertaining to Lok Sabha elections will be done after consultation and consensus, he said.
