Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has rejected Dhaka’s extradition request as illegitimate, alleging that due process was abandoned in the cases against her. Speaking to ANI, he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting Hasina asylum in August 2024 and claimed militants had planned to assassinate her. Joy said 17 judges were abruptly removed, laws were amended without parliamentary approval and defence lawyers were blocked from court, making extradition impossible. He accused the interim Yunus government of releasing thousands of convicted militants, including elements linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. Joy argued that the turmoil in Bangladesh was a “political coup” and questioned why elections have not been held if the interim administration truly enjoys public support.
