RAIA: Pedda Boys scrapped past spirited Kosu Boys 2-1 to clinch the Calsious Clay Fernandes memorial inter-ward football trophy organised by United Club Benaulim at the Ximbu Moll ground, Benaulim, recently.
Pedda Boys made a bright start but Faisal Bepari was unable to find the goal from a close range many a time. Kosu Boys goalkeeper Joshua also made some fine saves.
After the breather, Pedda Boys netted two quick goals in the space of three minutes through the boots of Calsius Fernandes and Joebern Maku.
Kosu Boys fought back and reduced the margin when Mark Fernandes sent the ball home from inside the box. Kosu Boys tried hard for an equaliser but Pedda Boys goalkeeper Roland made crucial saves to give his team the victory.
Earlier, chief guest Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, president of the function Holy Trinity Church Parish Priest Fr Ligorinho D’Costa, special guest Anthony Mam, Andrew Ferrao, Pele Fernandes, Ressica Fernandes (panch) and Amilcar Babush were introduced to the teams by United Club Benaulim President Doma Fernandes and Franco.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and trophy, while the runners-up had to be content with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and trophy.
