Amit Palekar tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party today, citing a need to align his actions with his principles. In a detailed letter addressed to party leadership, Palekar expressed that while he joined the party believing in transparency, internal democracy, and respect for grassroots voices, he found it increasingly difficult to reconcile these ideals with current decision-making processes.
He emphasised that his decision was not driven by anger or haste but by self-respect and clarity, keeping in mind the interests of his constituents in the St. Cruz Constituency. Palekar reaffirmed his commitment to accountability, people-centric governance, and justice, vowing to continue serving Goa with integrity.
“This is not an end, but a new beginning,” he concluded.
The resignation comes amid a period of internal upheaval in the Goa unit of AAP. The party faced a disappointing performance in the recent Zilla Panchayat elections, reflecting challenges in connecting with local voters. In addition, the party recently changed its state leadership, appointing Shrikrishna Parab as the new president, a move seen as an attempt to reinvigorate its organisational structure in Goa.
