MLA Sankalp Amonkar drew the attention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to gaps in the electoral roll cleanup during proceedings in the Goa Assembly. While appreciating the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, Amonkar flagged concerns over names of deceased persons continuing on electoral rolls despite deaths being officially registered. He stressed that such lapses affected the credibility of the electoral process. The MLA urged the government to consider a mandatory, time-bound mechanism where the issuance of a death certificate would automatically trigger the deletion of the individual’s name from the voter list. He also suggested a simplified system with proper tracking, forwarding, and acknowledgement to families, while seeking clarity on possible statutory or administrative measures.
