PANJIM: Directorate of Education (DoE) on Thursday issued a circular warning schools to refrain from resorting to ‘unfair means’ in the admission process. The unfair means include holding screening tests, interviewing parents and accepting capitation fees.
The circular comes after Education Department took serious cognisance of the admission procedures adopted by a school that sought support of parents on religious grounds for admissions for the academic year 2018-19, in its Marathi medium primary section, and further inquired about donations with parents seeking admission of their wards.
The department also warned that those charging capitation fees shall be punished with a fine which may extend to 10 times the capitation fee charged, while schools resorting to child screening procedures will be fined Rs 25,000 for the first contravention and Rs 50,000 for subsequent contraventions.
“Non adherence to these guidelines may also lead to penal action including suspension of grants to the academic institution,” Education director G P Bhat said.
