A cat stranded for nearly two weeks atop a pillar of the Kochi Metro Rail Limited was finally rescued in a coordinated late-night operation near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium stretch at Kaloor. The animal had been spotted about 50 feet above ground on a narrow ledge, prompting concern among commuters who shared images on social media.
Metro staff had tried to feed the cat but could not safely retrieve it. Authorities briefly halted services for initial efforts before suspending the operation. Later, power supply along the section was shut down to ensure safety. Fire and Rescue Services personnel, aided by animal welfare volunteers using a hydraulic crane, successfully brought the cat down around 1.30 am. The animal was later shifted to a veterinary hospital for examination and care.
