In a major devel opment in the Curchorem sex scandal case, police have arrested a youth from Madegal–Cacora following mounting public pressure and protests outside the police station. According to Police In spector Melson Colaco, the accused, identified as So ham Sushant Naik (20), has been booked under section 67A of IT Act (explicit vid eo recording/circulation) and 294 (1) & (2) (obscene acts/content linked to the incident) BNS. The arrest comes after nearly 200–300 residents gathered at the Curchorem Police Station, demanding immediate action in con nection with the alleged scandal. The crowd report edly refused to disperse until the accused was taken into custody. Police said that the FIR was registered based on video evidence report edly submitted by a local journalist, which allegedly points to the accused’s in volvement in a sex racket. Further investigation is underway to verify the au thenticity of the evidence and determine the extent of involvement. A tense situation was witnessed earlier at the police station, with locals and villagers expressing strong concern over the case and demanding swift legal action. Some protest ers alleged that the accused is linked to a local political figure, further intensifying public outrage. Speaking to reporters, PI Colaco said, “Victims should come to us. Even if any hint is given, we can approach them,” emphasising the need for victim cooperation in the investigation. Villagers, however, wel comed the police action and urged authorities to ensure that the legal pro cess is completed without delay. “The crime commit ted is very serious.
Victims’ identities should not be disclosed and they should get proper justice. Police should not come under any political pressure,” said a lo cal resident. Meanwhile, political par ties across Goa called for urgent and decisive govern ment action in connection with the alleged incident in Curchorem, stressing the need for a swift, impartial and time-bound investiga tion. The Goa Forward Party (GFP) asserted that those found guilty must face the full force of the law—“with out fear, favour, or delay.” In a post on X, GFP Presi dent and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai described the de velopments as deeply dis turbing and requiring im mediate State intervention. “The Government must act now—with clarity, firm ness, and zero tolerance— to uphold justice and the rule of law,” Sardesai said. He added that the party has urged the government to take suo motu cogni zance and initiate a swift, independent and time bound probe, cautioning that delays and influence can often shield the guilty. He also emphasised that the identity and dignity of victims must be fully pro tected, warning that any attempt to reveal identities or circulate sensitive ma terial should be dealt with strictly.

Earlier in the day, council lors along with GFP leaders met the Curchorem Police Inspector, raising concerns over delays in the investiga tion and seeking clarity on the progress of the probe. The delegation warned that if strict action is not taken within 48 hours, further steps may be considered. Echoing similar concerns, Amit Patkar, President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), termed the developments “deeply troubling” and called for immediate government in tervention. In his statement, Patkar urged the authorities to take suo motu cognisance and order a prompt, impar tial and time-bound inquiry, cautioning that delays or external influence could hinder justice. He stressed that the privacy, identity and dignity of victims must be safeguarded, and any attempts to disclose iden tities or circulate sensitive material must be dealt with firmly. Patkar said those respon sible must be brought to justice swiftly and without bias. He further urged the government to act with ur gency, transparency and zero tolerance to maintain public trust. Calls are growing for a transparent investigation and strict action against those responsible.
