Residents of Mawati have raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of a bridge constructed by the Water Resources Department over the Salaulim canal, which serves as the only access route to the village.
Locals allege that the bridge lacks safety railings on both sides, posing a significant risk to commuters. While villagers have attempted temporary fixes by filling potholes with soil, they say the structure remains fragile and could collapse at any time.

Residents further pointed out that although authorities had earlier installed a pole to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles, trucks are now reportedly accessing the bridge by bending the barrier due to ongoing pump house construction in the area, worsening its condition.
The absence of street lighting near the bridge has added to safety concerns, with villagers warning that any loss of vehicle control could result in a fall into the canal.
Villagers have urged authorities to immediately install proper railings and undertake urgent repair work to prevent a potential accident.
