At least 26 schoolchildren experienced breathing difficulties after reportedly inhaling smoke from burning dry leaves and garbage near Greenland Public School, officials said. The incident occurred in the Tamkuhiraj area when thick smoke from an adjacent plot drifted into the school premises, causing discomfort and respiratory distress among students.
Following complaints of uneasiness, all affected children were immediately taken to the Community Health Centre Sevarhi, where they received prompt medical attention. Doctors administered primary treatment, and the children were discharged after their condition improved. As a precaution, 11 students were referred to Kushinagar Medical College for further observation; they were later declared stable and sent home.
Senior officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, District Magistrate, and Superintendent of Police, visited the affected locations to oversee response measures and ensure proper care. Authorities confirmed that all children are now safe and the situation remains under control. An inquiry is expected to determine responsibility and prevent similar incidents in the future.
