CM Pramod Sawant Highlights Women’s Reservation, Welfare Schemes at Ambedkar Jayanti Event in Sankhali

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday подчеркed the government’s commitment to the upliftment of backward classes while addressing a gathering in Sankhali on the occasion of B. R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

Paying tribute to Dr Ambedkar’s lifelong efforts toward social justice and equality, Sawant highlighted recent legislative developments at the national level. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully steered the passage of a women’s reservation bill in the Lok Sabha, aimed at ensuring greater representation for women. The framework, he said, includes provisions for women from backward classes, enabling them to secure representation in Legislative Assemblies and the Lok Sabha from 2029 onwards, following necessary legislative procedures.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a fellowship gathering (Sneh-melava) held at Sankhali Ravindra Bhavan, where members of backward communities from the constituency came together to mark the occasion. The event also served as an interactive platform, with attendees raising various issues and concerns directly with the Chief Minister.

Responding to queries, Sawant encouraged students from backward classes to take advantage of the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme to pursue higher education. He also assured that infrastructure development, including roads and access pathways, would be taken up immediately once the required No Objection Certificates (NOCs) are obtained from landowners.

Urging the community to benefit from government welfare initiatives, the Chief Minister reiterated the administration’s focus on inclusive growth. Participants at the event welcomed the government’s efforts and congratulated it on its performance, while engaging in discussions on key local issues.
