OmegaBall is a variation of football played with three teams competing simultaneously on a circular field that features three goalposts. Each team is required to attack two goals while defending one, creating a dynamic format that demands constant tactical adjustment.

According to IIT Madras, the sport encourages faster decision-making, improved spatial awareness and continuous movement due to its multi-directional gameplay structure. Unlike traditional football, only one team emerges as the winner while the other two lose, increasing competitive intensity.

The institute also announced plans to establish an IIT Madras OmegaBall Club at the national level to promote the sport and encourage wider participation. The initiative is aimed at expanding sports innovation on campus and introducing alternative formats of football in India.

OmegaBall is already played in countries such as the United States, Brazil and parts of Europe, where it has gained attention as a fast-paced alternative to traditional football.
