Modi Spotlights K-Pop Craze and Bollywood Love in Korea

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a joint press conference in Delhi with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, celebrated the surging cultural exchange between India and South Korea. He spotlighted the skyrocketing popularity of K-pop and Korean dramas among Indian youth, while noting how Indian cinema and culture are gaining traction in Korea.

“Today, K-pop and K-dramas are getting extremely popular in India. Similarly, the recognition of Indian cinema and culture is growing in Korea too,” Modi stated, emphasizing a vibrant two-way cultural flow. He added that President Lee shares a fondness for Bollywood, fueling hopes for deeper ties.

To amplify this bond, Modi announced the India-South Korea Friendship Festival in 2028, aimed at fostering artistic collaborations.

Modi also invoked the ancient legend of Princess Suriratna from Ayodhya, who sailed to Korea and wed King Kim Suro, becoming Queen Heo Hwang-ok—the founder of the Gaya kingdom. This tale symbolizes enduring India-Korea links, blending myth with shared heritage.

Korean entertainment’s global dominance underscores this synergy. K-pop giants like BTS (Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, RM, Jungkook) and their ARMY fans, alongside BLACKPINK, SEVENTEEN, and NewJeans, have captivated India. Hit dramas further embed Hallyu wave, bridging borders and enriching cultural dialogues worldwide.
