PANJIM: The investigation into the Curchorem sex racket has intensified as forensic evidence begins to uncover the extent of the alleged exploitation. Accused Soham Naik faces mounting legal trouble after phone records retrieved from the forensic laboratory revealed a video of a minor girl being subjected to sexual abuse.
Official sources indicate that the retrieved data includes evidence of a minor being recorded in a compromising situation with another friend of the accused. Allegations suggest that Soham recorded the incident and distributed the digital content to others.
“Recording and circulating such material involving a minor constitutes a serious violation under the Goa Children’s Act,” a police official stated under the condition of anonymity. “The accused will face additional charges under the relevant sections of the Act.”
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Verna played a critical role by recovering the deleted communication data. In addition to the video evidence, investigators discovered numerous messages and chats that further implicate the accused in exploitative behaviour.
While digital evidence has been recovered, investigators noted that obtaining formal statements from all involved parties remains a challenge. Some victims have been hesitant to come forward or have provided conflicting accounts regarding the nature of the events.
The investigation continues as three other officers await further forensic reports. These upcoming findings are expected to provide more details regarding the operation of the racket and help identify any additional individuals involved in these illegal activities.
