Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant has urged women across the state to prioritise regular health check-ups and not neglect their personal well-being because of household responsibilities. Addressing citizens during a health awareness initiative, the chief minister stressed the importance of early diagnosis and preventive healthcare.
Sawant said nearly 50,000 women and girls in Goa have already undergone free health screening under the government’s ‘Check by Doctor’ and ‘Health with Ayurveda’ initiatives. According to him, these programmes are aimed at identifying illnesses at an early stage before they become severe and difficult to treat.
The chief minister highlighted that the state government is actively focusing on awareness campaigns and screenings related to common health concerns such as diabetes, blood pressure, kidney disorders and dialysis-related complications. He said timely diagnosis can significantly improve treatment outcomes and reduce long-term health risks.
Sawant also appealed to citizens to make full use of the free medical camps being organised across the state till June 5. He said the initiative is designed to make healthcare more accessible, especially for women who often delay medical attention while managing family responsibilities.
Under the programme, the government is also providing free medicines and treatment assistance of up to ₹20,000 for eligible beneficiaries. Officials believe the initiative will strengthen preventive healthcare awareness and encourage more women to seek timely medical consultations.
The Goa government has been increasingly focusing on public health outreach programmes, particularly targeting lifestyle diseases and chronic illnesses. Authorities said the ongoing campaign aims to create greater awareness about regular medical screenings and improve healthcare accessibility in rural and urban areas alike.
